By default, the query searches for the word entered. '*' is a wildcard which can be used to broaden the search. Case is ignored.

You can enter multiple words separated by commas which is treated as a logical OR: lumbar, spine will search for documents containing "lumbar" or "spine". If you omit the commas, the query expression is treated as a phrase: lumbar spine will search for the phrase "lumbar spine".

You can use AND, OR and NOT operators to limit the search: cervical AND lumbar will search for documents containing both "cervical" and "lumbar"; cervical OR lumbar will search for documents containing either "cervical" or "lumbar"; cervical NOT lumbar will seach for documents containing only "cervical". To include AND, OR, or NOT in a search, you surround it with double quotation marks: cervical "and" lumbar searches for the phrase "cervical and lumbar".

Words that derive from those entered in the query are searched so that entering 'spin' will return documents containing both 'spine' and 'spinal'.

The documents returned in the search are presented in a list based on a relevancy score with the most relevant documents at the top.
